Origins of Reiki
Originating in Tibet, Reiki was revived in the 1800s by a Japanese monk named Dr Mikao Usui. The word Reiki literally means universal life force. The Reiki practitioner has been attuned to channel this energy through initiation by a Reiki Master. This activates the absorption of greater healing energy in the practitioner, who is then able to channel this energy to the client in a more powerful and concentrated way.
Laying on of hands
Through a series of hands positions, working from the top of the head to the soles of the feet, the Reiki practitioner rests his or her hands in each of these positions for a period of 3 to 5 minutes, or whatever feels appropriate to the healer at the time. The hand positions include resting on the crown of the head, face, neck, shoulders, arms. Hands heart area, stomach, legs and feet.
How does Reiki help?
While Reiki is no substitute for the traditional medical treatment of serious conditions, it is rapidly gaining the reputation of a profound complement to aiding healing on all levels. Reiki can relax and reduce stress , increase energy ,inspire creativity, aid natural healing, balance the body and emotions, release blocks and cause other shifts in health and attitude.
There are three degrees of Reiki which everyone can learn if taught by a master who has been attuned to Reiki at level 111/masters. Every teacher has their own style though there is a fairly strict framework.
This is the general guideline
At level 1, you are attuned to Reiki energy. You will learn about the history and the power of Reiki. You are shown the basic hand positions and how the practice Reiki on yourself, friends and family. This is a two day course
At level 11, you are given a second attunement and are given the scared symbols so you can work as a Reiki practitioner. This is a two day course.
At level 111/masters, you are given a third attunement and are shown how to teach and attune others to all levels of Reiki. At this level you become a master.
Many teachers differ greatly on how long should be spent on Reiki study and practise between levels. Some believe it should be years, with a dedication and devotion to Reiki. Some only teach one day courses. Despite this differce of option it is best to contact me to find what is best for you.
“I’ve had treatments from Niki for over five years and the fact that I keep going back speaks for itself. Whether it’s reiki, reflexology, massage or a pampering facial she has magic fingers and is always keen to tailor treatments to my changing needs.
After having reiki sessions with Niki I was keen to find out more and went on two training weekends with her to learn how to become a reiki practitioner myself. The course was thorough, professional and lots of fun. Oh, and the healthy lunch she cooked was to die for!” Penny Jenkins
